*sigh*

I give up. I started watching The Watchmen, and it's too boring, too idiotic, too pointless and badly done for me to enjoy. I simply can't make myself enjoy it. That's a first. I've never ever stopped watching a movie in the middle before.

And I thought Sin City was bad. Geeez.

So... simply put, the movie is pure, unadulterated crap. I enjoyed watching... even reading frikkin Twilight better! I'm serious!

I got as far as 01:39 and I can't decide if the whole fucking thing has a plot or not because so far it had none besides the impending Dooom *gasp* that may not even come and that's only mentioned in passing between time jumps, uninteresting conversation and gore, gore, gore.

Visual: crap.
Sound: cheesy.
Plot: nonexistent.

The storyline keeps jumping back and forth without any discernible meaning to it, there are profound silences, all-around depression, people who brood and brood and brood endlessly, gore and reminiscence, more gore and more pointless reminiscence, rape and pointless silences... and more gore.

To all who suggested I watch this crap... Next time, just don't. Apparently you have no idea what I like... I don't watch crap, thanks very much.

Heavily medicated and going

Yep. Allergy hit like a brick wall and now I'm half-stupid and half pain-in-the-ass. Amongst the numerous side effects that show up, my brain feels like it's stuffed full of cotton and my braincells have been siphoned out to make space. My motor functions are even more fucked up than when I take half the dosage... it sounds pretty much logical actually... and my head hurts. I'm not really paranoid... I'm way too paranoid sometimes and I can bitch like nobody's business.

Yeah, it rocks.

But anyway... I bought some more yarn, since it's cheap and I was in the vicinity... and I had to kill some time. Then we went to the trusty old shop we buy clothes when there's a sale. It was a sale today. I got 3 awesome pair of pants: a pair of blue jeans with studded and sewn-on patterns, a simple black pair that's a bit wider at the legs, a style I like very very much and a brown one - and a coat, brown that goes with the brown pair of pants.

It was cheaper than where we usually buy the jeans and I didn't have to search through a mall-ful of shops to find 3 pairs of jeans that fit nicely and a coat I like... and fits. An added bonus.

Thus... I'm happy. But my head's killing me.

That's life.

*owies*

PS: I'm still sneezing, my eyes are tearing up periodically and I feel like I have the flu, only the medication dries up my mouth. I'm parched and sneezing and my head hurts. I love the world.

Poison study

As many of you know, I haven't found any decent fantasy novels out there aside for Pratchett, Gaiman and (Jim) Butcher books. (Since Rowling believes that her Harry Potter books are NOT fantasy, and since book 7 was utter crap anyway, I left her out.)

Mostly, I'm unable to stomach the horrid fantasy names, the tree hugging, the "wonderful creatures" and the happy-happy braindead, busty maidens who are more often than not in distress. Also, sickeningly sweet or overly dramatic stuff makes me retch. Lengthy explanations of perfectly beautiful men teenagers (Seriously, beautiful? Men?? How about good old drop dead gorgeous?) and sweet/wonderful smelling morning breath and skin sparkling like diamonds just freak me out. And makes me think that the writer should keep her overly sexual daydreams to herself or her blog and get her brains f*cked out... not that she has any.

Anyway. Back to Poison study. I saw it in passing while I was browsing for other books. The flashy cover and the title interested me. At first I thought it was going to be horrid and mushy so I didn't touch it, but yesterday I was bored so I decided to give it a go.

What can I say? While the book was not perfect, it didn't contain lengthy odes of descriptions, its plot wasn't as predictable as the average Hollywood movie (Although most Hollywood movies do not have a plot anyway.) and captured my interest. Most of the time I completely forgot I was reading a fantasy novel. It had a solid background story that sucked me right in and while it had some Mary Sue-ish elements, it wasn't a Mary Sue book. It also had one of the best description on magic (regarding the story's universe) I've ever read in fantasy novels. (Pratchett's still the best in my book.) I must admit I was thoroughly amazed.

I was also very much interested in the main male protagonist, a potions master. Angular face with black hair and blue eyes - he was the only character given so much detail. A pathological sociopath, his hobbies included poison study, assassination, espionage and Machiavellian political warfare. When bored, he poisoned the food taster's food, leaked false information for later usage, carved exquisite statuettes, used stealth to move around so he would stay in shape and played mind games with people he wanted to trust. What can I say, the guy's awesomely created.

So... what did the book lack? For one: descriptions. I could have done with some more description about the female main hero (Yes, you heard right!) and mostly any and everybody else. The castle was described a bit, the clothes, but still, it all could have done with more details. It also could have done with a few jokes... But that's just what I like. And I must also admit... it could have used e bit more passion. I mean it sounded a bit detached, although the protagonist was detached anyway, but I hope the next book shall be better.

I'm going to read it tonight.

And our new fleet is ready for takeoff!

I must admit, I love making these little critters. Even more so that I might have a chance of selling them. Might, don't forget. Not will. But I hope I can.Oh and did you know that after his movie: The Brids, Hitchcock wanted to make The Butterflies? :P

Yay for Yarns!

Today, I have been to some second hand clothes shops... Places where they sell second hand yarns. I might have mentioned that already... I can't remember.

So. These second hand yarns are all sorts. Acrylic, wool, mix or anything else. You can find untouched balls of yarn and little leftovers in all colours, sizes and types. It's kind of fun too, to dig for little treasures.

And it's also very cheap.

Today I visited two shops and I bought about 0,7 kg never used wool yarn. All for the price of one ball (50g) of wool yarn purchased in a (first hand) yarn shop.

I have all kinds of colours, and as I said, they are mostly never used, or leftovers. Still, even the leftovers are in the original ball-shape and they are not dirty.

I've found great treasures, and I'm so very happy! ^^

Edem's challenge

So this is the challenge.

Today's music is from Kövi Szabolcs, who plays the flute. I first met the guy at the plant convention in April. It's a yearly event, and at that time a few years ago he was the guest. There was also a woman invited who makes wonderful ceramic figures, mostly bigger ones (weatherproof) for garden ornaments.

Now the place they held the convention had a small, artificial lake. On the banks they placed these pretty ceramics, dragons on pillars, a pot-bellied, half-naked man reclining with a fishing hook, big, sad faced exotic birds, a few mermaids... let's say it looked like an enchanted place. And amidst these ceramic wonders the guy stood and played his music. Suffice to say the music fit in well and it felt like falling through the rabbit hole and seeing a piece of wonderland.

(I actually intended to link "Szertartás", but I couldn't find it, so you get "Búcsú a varázslók erdejétől". Enjoy.)

Oh, PS, my froggie from the fair is made by that woman, if you haven't noticed yet. ^^

All right, now that the sunstroke has passed and I don't have the urge to puke all over the keyboard... I feel much better. Good enough to write about the Festival of Folk Arts. (Housed, as always in the Castle District, around the Castle in Buda.)

It was good. But hot. The sun was shining so damn much I got a glaring red sunburn and a not so slight sunstroke. But I still enjoyed it.

So by now I know about the layout of the place and the vendors who make the good stuff. I also know who sells the cheap but good quality things. And I had my wishlist ready.

When we got to the square where the fair started from, we were quite surprised, because there were even more vendors than there have been ever before. I mean I pretty much expected half of the vendors not to show up in such a bad economy, but no, there were even more. Go figure.

Anyway, since the French came to visit the fair and brought their own vendors. They were on the right of the entrance in the little square, and the lady where you could make your own wreath from dry flowers and hay methinks was gone. I used to make them every year and go around wearing my wreath throughout the fair. People used to ask me where I bought it or if they could take a photo with me (mostly tourists). But not this year. I was pretty sad. But moved on.

So, we went on, and found some very very pretty Hungarian jewelry. The ring I almost bought looked very pretty... until I saw the crack in it right before I made the purchase. So I declined politely. I hurt the poor woman, for which I am sorry, but the ring was cracked. And it was so pretty. :(

Anyway, we moved on and we found another Hungarian jewelry booth. The woman there had old motifs from all parts of Hungary, and most of them were székely motifs. (The Hungarians living in Transylvania. Yup, it used to belong to us, before it was taken away, like the other 2/3 of the original country.) And since it was much cheaper than silver pendants in a shop (which look generic anyway), and the woman dropped the price by 300 if I bought the second one, I bought two pendants. One is a wildflower from old sewings in the uplands, the other depicts two lilies entwined, taken from székely carvings. (My treasures will be shown at the bottom of the post.)

Anyway, we went on, and bought a leather belt for each of us. Luckily, my dad came as well, so he got himself the belt he wanted. These belts last long and are so very very perfect... I can tell you, they are. I also got their address, so now I know where to go for more. :)

I also saw people dressed in traditional clothing. Women in the matyó dresses, guys in the csikós (wrangler) clothes... and more. Once a year it feels so nice to see people still keeping up the traditions.

Anyway, there was a man who knew how to make very neat bracelets, and I was a return customer of his... I did plan on returning to him again this year. But he wasn't in his usual place, so I went in search for him. I found him 5-6 booths away from his usual place, luckily, and bought myself a black bracelet studded with old motifs. (See at the bottom with the rest of my findings.)

And the last on my wishlist was a hairpin. I have no idea how that type is called, so hairpin it shall be called here. I went to the booth I always admired for the pretty hair ornaments and bought one especially cheap... which was a wonder, because that guy usually sold his stuff for a much higher price than any other... oh well. I was happy to get myself on a pretty hair ornament like that for so cheap.

And then we found the wreath lady nearly at the end of the fair. Which wasn't fair. By then I was nearly dying of sunstroke and heatstroke, even though I put my head under the water at every fountain. Well, they weren't real fountains, just... free tap water for all the people at the festival. Thing is, I didn't feel like making a wreath so far in, so... this year I didn't. *sniff*

We even met the woman who made my favourite ceramic figures, and we bought the final one, the frog. It'll be my birthday present, but I don't care. Pretty froggie makes me happy.

And then, not long before the exit we came to a booth where the seller was... a friend of mine. She refused to accept my money for a metal wing I bough off her, so I gave her one of my butterflies, a green and yellow one which was actually made to be a brooch. She liked it quite a bit. Who knows, I migth ask her is she'd sell my stuff... for a percentage. :)

And then we finished looking through the booths, and it had taken us nearly 6 hours to do so. Of course we at in the middle as usual and sat in the shade, but still. It took us half a day. But it was fun!

And we went home and I realized that I forgot to switch my camera back from ISO 1200, since I had set it on that for making photos of the fireworks. *facepalm*

So I'm very sorry for the crappy quality of the piccies.

And here is what I bought:

St Stephen's Day

Air parade with planes and suchlike, check.
Military parade with "huggle the tanks", check.
Museum visits for free, check. (Was horrid, the exhibitions. Glad I didn't have to pay that 2k per each or I'd have felt ripped off like all the other people who wrote in the guestbook.
Annual fireworks, check.
Annual folks arts fair - tomorrow. I hope we won't kill each other with my mom.

Pictures will be up when I feel like putting them up.

Been having some family issues, I guess that's why I didn't really realize why I was feeling so very down. Also, slight paranoia and depression can be attributed to side effects of the drugs I have to take. Allergy is a bitch, trust me.

Well, anyway. I have been happily going around and out without my charm bracelet and my usual bracelets on. I thought it was so neat, finally being open-minded and most of all, strong.

But it dawned on me tonight that if you leave your flat for 2 weeks, bugs might move in. And if you move back without having the time or mind to check for bugs and settle back in without any bug repellent, you're just asking to be bitten - and hard.

So I guess I only have my own stupidity to blame for the "bug bites". *sigh*

Going to hell

Yeah, I gave in and watched the 3rd season of Heroes out of utter boredom. Can't say it was more... anything than I expected. It made my life a bit more interesting for 3 days, but that's about it.

Still, a few observations, as usual.

  • It was so predictable, I kept guessing what would happen next. I mean when Peter hailed a cab I said: oh no, seriously, will that be Mohinder? And it was. From then on I kept guessing right and right again.

  • Peter: I actually liked him. He was less emo and more rugged and he wasn't flashing us every chance he got with his muscular body. Yay. At least I didn't go blind. Oh and the stubble? Loved it.

  • Hiro jealous? Seems like yet another step back. He wasn't jealous of Kensei (well, technically he wanted Yaeko, but still), but he is constantly jealous of Ando. Someone rewrote Hiro's character again while we weren't looking.

  • Bald hunter guy? Ehhh, so cliché. Also, he looked like a poor, starving patient who just escaped from chemo.

  • Nathan: I was sure he was gonna fuck it up. And be a hypocrite as always.

  • Sylar survived it. Again. And he has an unhealthy and disturbing romantic interest in Claire. As Claire's mother said, she's just 17. How old is Sylar again? ... pedo bear with a serious case of eyebrows.

  • Rebel: I actually predicted it that he was a teenage guy who read comic books. I had three hunches, actually: 1, he is actually a bad guy trying to lure the fugitives into some elaborate plot; 2, he is a good guy, too idealistic for words; 3, he is a teenager who reads too many comic books.

  • Daphne and Nathan die. While Claire looks on, sobbing. But ever since Season 2 it's common knowledge that Claire's blood can resurrect people. So... what's with this stupidity of the creators ignoring the facts? I mean if they don't want to resurrect Nathan and Daphne in the series, why not just burn them in an accident or something and not leave a body behind? Because this way there are plot holes the size of a continent. You pick which one.
Anyway, more to follow. But I'm about to faint from tiredness.

Break a tooth

Well, I bit down too hard and now I'll have to go visit the dentist as soon as I get home from the beach, which will happen around wednesday. If it gets painful or more sore, I'll go sooner, although I'd prefer our family dentist with all the painkillers. If we have to do anything about it.

Yikes.

Note to self: clutziness is still not good.
